Shunt Treatment

We met with the neurologist late this morning. We are so grateful for the medical treatment available in today's world and for the professionals who dedicate their lives to researching issues and preparing themselves to carry out delicate procedures.  We've been particularly impressed with the neurologist we met with, who is the same one whom we were able to meet with previously.  He pulled up the MRI images and pointed out why the new treatment we've been telling many of you about would not be available to our daughter.  In the end, he said a shunt would be the appropriate treatment for Brooklyn and we are grateful for his (and his colleagues') professional opinion and certainly feel comfortable with the assessment.

The exciting news is that Brooklyn will go in for the shunt placement tomorrow!  We were concerned it might not be until next week, but this will begin the lengthy process of draining her excess fluid and will also allow her to begin her recovery sooner. We count this as a great blessing.  Jenny just sent a text indicating the surgery will be at 1 pm (we originally thought it would be later in the day).

At this point our main concerns are a) to have the surgeon be guided to safely place the shunt (so it is both effective in draining the fluid but also so that the likelihood of infection or shunt failure is minimal) and b) to have her brain respond well to this treatment.  We appreciate all of your support!

  1. I so wish I could have be there with my mom & sister to see Jenny & sweet Brooklyn Dora! Thank you for the updates...it's so exciting to hear she is doing well. She is beautiful, and you can feel how special she is even just looking at the pictures! We are praying for her, especially at 1pm!
