Morning Update

No big news updates at this point.  Brooklyn has been resting well and all of her numbers are great.

Here is a quick picture of her in her stylish hat and blanket:

I was able to go and hold her this morning and it was so peaceful.  I've been thinking a bit about the unknown.  I guess to some extent we are facing unknowns in the future, such as what will the effects of this fluid be long-term and how many shunts she'll need over her life.  But what's been interesting to think about is what her situation would be if so many prayers and other efforts had not been offered on her behalf.  Things could be so much worse than they are, and we are so grateful for her current state and for her future possibilities, her future unknowns.  I guess we'll just be content for what we do know for now and that is that we have a lovely, calm little girl who we know is loved by us, by our Heavenly Father, and by so many others.

I should also mention some of the other wonderful things we've experienced.  There is a Ronald McDonald House on the floor below the PC NICU where family members can go to get some food, a quick nap, etc.  It is a beautiful facility, probably the nicest area in the entire hospital with amazing woodwork, a kitchen for all to envy, etc.  I'll be honest.  I was excited to go for the free food.  But what I also found was that there are people there who have real struggles, with plenty to worry about for their little children.  My first trip there I found two couples who have children here for different reasons. I won't go into details, but it was just neat to see how easily they talked with each and I joined their conversation.  Here we were, complete strangers, facing different circumstances, but having a great discussion that I hope was beneficial to everyone.

We've continued to have wonderful visitors.  One of the great benefits of living where we do is family support during this time.  Jenny's sisters both came to visit for extended periods and provided great cheer to us.  They are such wonderful people and I'll always admire both of them and their families.  We also ran into Aunt Sue! Jenny's Uncle Paul was here at the hospital for a treatment.  Aunt Sue was planning on seeing us and we ran into her when she was getting off the elevator we were waiting for. We do hope Uncle Paul is doing well!

  2. I love the hat; thanks, Aunt Barbie. Of course, it would be Barbie who would first think of giving Brooklyn a boost with fashion. I'm so grateful for the family and friends surrounding Jenny, Chad & Brooklyn at this tender time. We join our faith and prayers with all of you for the benefit if this precious little one.
