And Back to the hospital

Unfortunately there was some leaking behind Brooklyn's ear and so it was necessary that she return to Primary Children's Sunday afternoon.  We decided to have Jenny drive her down and that I would stay here with the other kids.  For now they have Brooklyn on antibiotics and so far there is no sign of infection in the fluid they drew.  The plan will be to have her down there for at least a couple of days and then maybe she can come home.  So, once again we put our trust in the Lord and have hope that His will will be done and that this will be for the best.  

On this note I wanted to highlight a brief quote that was shared by a sweet sister during her talk in church today.  Elder Richard G. Scott said:

"To exercise faith is to trust that the Lord knows what He is doing with you and that He can accomplish it for your eternal good even though you cannot understand how He can possibly do it. We are like infants in our understanding of eternal matters and their impact on us here in mortality. Yet at times we act as if we knew it all. When you pass through trials for His purposes, as you trust Him, exercise faith in Him, He will help you. That support will generally come step by step, a portion at a time. While you are passing through each phase, the pain and difficulty that comes from being enlarged will continue. If all matters were immediately resolved at your first petition, you could not grow. Your Father in Heaven and His Beloved Son love you perfectly. They would not require you to experience a moment more of difficulty than is absolutely needed for your personal benefit or for that of those you love." From "Trust in the Lord"

I appreciate this quote, particularly the portion I've underlined.  The idea that many difficulties we face are for our good is certainly not easy to accept.  And yet, feeling that it is true that God and Christ love Brooklyn and all of us so much, and that our difficulties will end as soon as they are no longer necessary, is comforting.  So, each trip to the hospital, each moment of concern at the slightest change, each minute or day apart, all of this can help our family grow, both as individuals and as a family unit. God has been so good to us and we have felt His peace and are confident in Him and we'll try to accept His timing as best we can.

I love the first verse in the Book of Mormon where Nephi says "...and having seen many afflictions in the course of my days, nevertheless, having been highly favored of the Lord in all my days..." What I learn here is that while trials are common, the Lord's love and concern for us is more constant, more common than our trials and this truth is great cause for joy.
