Visit with Vision Specialist

Brooklyn had an appointment to meet with the vision doctor at Primary Children's yesterday. It was a wonderful visit.  They had her go through various exercises to test her vision range and she seemed to do well.  They also dilated her eyes to get a good look at them to determine what, if any treatment she would need at this time.  Jenny and I were so impressed with the kind people who worked with her and evaluated her.  So cheerful, open and helpful.

Our main concern was that her eyes don't always move together.  This became a bit more of a concern when she began eating food in addition to bottle feeding.  She would look at the spoon and go a bit cross-eyed.  At other times her eyes would simply not be aligned.  They confirmed that the eyes do not always move together during the testing.

Nevertheless, we were so excited to talk with the doctor and have him tell us that he does not see any need for treatment at this time.  He talked about how, with hydrocephalus, once the condition is under control the sight can start to improve.  He said something to the effect that we need to send our neurosurgeon a Christmas card because her optical nerves are normal (i.e., not damaged), and we are so excited that she does not need any treatment.

If treatments do arise in the future, they would be either a patch, glasses, or surgery but again, he does not see any need to intervene with any of those at this time.  We were so excited, Jenny in particular.  We feel so blessed that Brooklyn received good news once again and that it appears she is seeing well.

Thanks to all of you again for your prayers and support!
